Hello FOOSA Symphony!
The FOOSA Symphony is a new release for 2025!
Conductor: Charles Latshaw
Repertoire: The repertoire for the symphony will be chosen from standard orchestral repertoire based on instrumentation. You will be notified about the repertoire approximately two weeks before the start of the festival.
The FOOSA Symphony will take place on the Fresno State Campus.
Arrival: June 14, 2025 (For out of town residents)
Many of you will be traveling together on the same flights on June 14th, so we do schedule pickups. Schedules and pickup times will be sent once we have everyone’s flight information. You must provide us with your airline, flight number, and estimated time of arrival so we can plan shuttles from the airport to the dorms.
The airport is only a short 15-minute Uber or Lyft drive from the dorms if you prefer that.
Check-in for the dorms starts at 9 am on June 14th, but you will be able to check in at any time, even late at night. If there are flight delays, cancellations, etc., we will handle those on a case-by-case basis. We understand that air travel can be tricky.
If you need to arrive earlier the dorms can sometimes accommodate early arrivals for a fee of $50.
Dorm Information:
Check-in starts at 9 am on Saturday, June 14th. Check-out time is 10 am on June 30th. When checking out, please sign out in the Atrium and return your keycard. Remember not to take your key card with you when leaving, as a $100 charge will apply.
We understand that some participants may have later flights on June 30th. You will be allowed to stay in the dorm's common area, use the pool, or practice until your departure. Please note that we do not provide a shuttle service to the airport on Monday. However, shared Uber or Lyft rides are cost-effective transportation options to the airport.
Accommodations will be at Homan Hall (subject to change). All participants must complete the roommate/dorm preference form so that we can assign roommates. If you already have a roommate preference, please indicate it in the form. Rooms are typically double occupancy, but single rooms may be available depending on space, with an additional charge for single occupancy. For any requests for single occupancy, please contact cmarchese@yoofresno.org.
Linens, towels, and pillows will be provided and changed midway through the festival. Laundry facilities are located on the first floor for your convenience.
Each room is equipped with a microwave, mini fridge, and there is a fully equipped community kitchen available. Practice in the dorms is allowed until 10 pm.
Please be reminded that smoking and non-prescription drugs are strictly prohibited in the dorms, with a zero-tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol. Over-the-counter medication such as Tylenol and allergy medicine is allowed. Alcohol is also not permitted on campus during the festival.
The dorm fee does not include meals. Meals will be available for purchase on campus, but there are many options both on and off campus. We have observed that the university's full meal plan is quite expensive, and there are cheaper options available on and off campus. Shuttle runs will be provided for purchasing necessities and groceries during the first few days and as needed during the festival.
FOOSA Dorm Meal Prices 2024:
Breakfast = $8.47
Lunch = $11.19
Dinner = $13.58
Please note that only a few meals will be provided by the festival.

What to Bring
Please make sure to bring your instrument and any other necessary music or supplies for the two weeks, unless you have arranged for an instrument rental. FOOSA is very intensive, so be sure to have all the essentials, such as extra strings, reeds, key oil, stands, etc. If you are sensitive to loud noises, consider bringing earplugs for rehearsals.
Fresno's weather is typically very hot and dry in the summer. Evenings can be cool, so it's recommended to pack a light jacket or sweatshirt and don't forget to bring a bathing suit as there is a pool at the dorm. Stay hydrated as it gets hot in Fresno!
Remember to bring any prescription medications, glasses, contact lenses, and any other essential personal items you may need.
For concerts, the dress code is all black, including socks and shoes. Dresses must cover the shoulders and be floor-length, and ¾ or long-sleeve shirts are preferred. Jackets are optional.
If you need to rent a large instrument such as a bass or harp, we will do our best to accommodate you. Bass rentals cost $550 and harp rentals cost $400 for the duration of the festival.
We are excited to meet and collaborate with all of you to create some #FOOSA MAGIC!
