Hello FOOSA Philharmonic!
We're preparing for an amazing musical experience this summer. I hope this addresses any questions you may have. Please read everything carefully!
Everybody must complete the roommate/dorm preference form, even if they are not staying in the dorms. You will also receive roommate assignments for our trip to LA.
Your FOOSA Philharmonic contact is Catherine Marchese.

Arrival: June 14, 2025
Many of you will be traveling together on the same flights on June 14th, so we do schedule pick up. Schedules and pick up times will be sent once we get everyone’s flight information. You must provide us with your airline, flight number, and estimated time of arrival so we can plan shuttles from the airport to the dorms. The airport is a very short 15-minute Uber or Lyft drive from the airport to the dorms if you prefer that.
Check-in for the dorms starts at 9 am on June 14th, but you will be able to check in anytime (even late at night). If there are flight delays, cancellations, etc. we will deal with those on a case-to-case basis. We do understand that flight travel can be tricky. If you need to arrive earlier (the day before), the dorms can sometimes accommodate early arrivals for a fee.
Dorm Information:
Check-in begins at 9 am on Saturday, June 14th. You must check out by 10 am on June 30th. During checkout, please sign out in the Atrium and return your keycard. Remember not to take your key card with you, as there will be a $100 charge if it's not returned.
If you have a later flight on June 30th, you can stay at the dorm in the common area, use the pool, or practice. Please note that we do not offer a shuttle service to the airport on Monday. However, a shared Uber or Lyft is an economical way to get to the airport.
You will be staying at Homan Hall (subject to change). Please fill out the roommate/dorm preference form so that we can assign roommates. If you have a specific roommate preference, indicate it in the form. Rooms are double occupancy, and there is an additional charge for a single room. Contact cmarchese@yoofresno.org for any requests for single occupancy.
Linens, towels, and pillows will be provided and changed midway through the festival. Laundry facilities are located on the first floor for your convenience.
Each room is equipped with microwaves and mini-fridges, as well as a fully equipped community kitchen. Practice is allowed in the dorms until 10 pm.
There is a strict no-smoking and no non-prescription drugs policy in the dorms. Alcohol is also not allowed on campus during the festival. We have a zero tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol. Over-the-counter medication such as Tylenol and allergy medicine is allowed.
To keep costs low, the dorm fee does not include meals. Meals will be available for purchase on campus, but there are many options both on and off campus. Full meal plans offered by the university are expensive, but students can choose to pay for meals in the cafeteria on a meal-to-meal basis. There are also nearby establishments and grocery stores for food purchases. Shuttle runs will be available to buy necessities and groceries during the festival.
FOOSA Dorm Meal Prices 2024:
Breakfast = $8.47
Lunch = $11.19
Dinner = $13.58
Please note that only a few meals will be provided by the festival.
Opening Day and Tentative Schedule
FOOSA will officially begin on June 15th at 2 pm. Registration starts at 2 pm on Sunday, June 15th in the main Music Building. If you arrive later, we will assist you with registration. Upon arrival, you will sign in, receive your nametag and t-shirt, and be given general information.
Lockers will be assigned as needed. Seating auditions will take place from 3:30-5:30 pm. Your professors will inform you about any additional requirements for seating.
There will be a meeting with your sections from 6:00-6:45 pm, where you will receive seating and music. The Welcome Meeting and Introductions will begin at 7 pm in the Fresno State Concert Hall, located across from the rehearsal/band room.
At 7:30 pm, there will be a Welcome Party with a catered dinner.
What to Bring
Please make sure to bring your instrument and any other necessary music or supplies for the two weeks, unless you have arranged for an instrument rental. FOOSA is very intensive, so be sure to have all the essentials, such as extra strings, reeds, key oil, stands, etc. If you are sensitive to loud noises, consider bringing earplugs for rehearsals.
Fresno's weather is typically very hot and dry in the summer. Evenings can be cool, so it's recommended to pack a light jacket or sweatshirt, and don't forget to bring a bathing suit as there is a pool at the dorm. Stay hydrated as it gets hot in Fresno!
Remember to bring any prescription medications, glasses, contact lenses, and any other essential personal items you may need.
For concerts, the dress code is all black, including socks and shoes. Dresses must cover the shoulders and be floor-length, and ¾ or long sleeve shirts are preferred. Jackets are optional.
If you need to rent a large instrument such as a bass or harp, we will do our best to accommodate you. Bass rentals cost $550 and harp rentals cost $400 for the duration of the festival.
Overnight in LA
On June 27th, we will be going to LA for our Disney Hall concert. We will leave early in the morning on tour buses and will stay overnight in LA after the concert. You will be responsible for your lunch, but dinner will be provided before the concert. The next morning, we will visit the Getty Museum, an amazing place in LA, before heading back to Fresno around 3 pm. More detailed information will follow during the festival regarding our overnight stay.
Final Concert in Fresno
The final concert is scheduled for Sunday, June 29th at 4 pm at the Saroyan Theater in Fresno. A bus will be available to transport you to and from the dorms to the theater on Sunday. Lunch will be provided after the rehearsal. If you need to check out of the dorms early, please inform us so that we can assist you properly. Remember to sign out at the Atrium and return your dorm card to avoid a fee. Please plan your departures for Monday, June 30th.
