Joel Elias is the Principal Trombonist for the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, was Principal Trombonist for the Sacramento Symphony for 15 years, and has appeared regularly as a soloist. In addition to performing with numerous local ensembles, including the Sacramento Chamber Music Society and the California Fine Arts Brass, Mr. Elias has performed and toured with the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera. He has played with the San Francisco Symphony, the Golman Band, and the rock group Emerson, Lake and Palmer. A Lecturer in Low Brass at California State University, Sacramento, Mr. Elias has also served on the faculty at University of the Pacific and the University of California, Davis and Chico. Mr. Elias graduated from Indiana University, where he studied with Lewis Van Haney and S. Thomas Beversdorf, and the Julliard School where he studied with Edward Herman and earned his M.M degree. He also was a faculty member of the 1999 International Trombone Festival at S.U.N.Y., Potsdam. Mr. Elias is a frequent contributor to music publications, including the International Trombone Association Journal and The Instrumentalist.
